My song speaks of a metaphorical "wall" that can emphasise cultural differences and divide us, and it is my message to the people of Tasmania that we must abolish this wall and acknowledge that our cultural differences are what enhance our society - and they should be celebrated! This song tells the story of people who have come to Tasmania from places of injustice, fear and conflict - and by listening to this song Tasmanians may gain empathy and greater understanding for these people, and welcome them into our friendly community to live the safe, healthy and opportunistic lives that we do. In return, these people can help us to appreciate how lucky we are to live in a place like Tasmania. I decided to write a song because Tasmania celebrates the arts and creativity, and I believe a song has the power to convey my message for a united future.

Note: The song has been provided as a high quality mp3 file and may take a while to download, depending on your internet connection speed.

We are told to "love this place" but what are we really loving, is it the creative use or corporate abuse? What does the future hold for our beloved State? Will it continue to be raped of its resources and stripped of its beauty, to make way for brand new top of the line constructions or will it become the Clever State? My piece tries to reflect this question, the tension between use and abuse of the environment.

Our project responds to points 13 and 18 which relates to caring for the elderly and becoming a volunteer. To improve Tasmania’s future, we need to demonstrate the rewards of helping others of all ages. The youngest and oldest generations have a lot to offer each other. This movie was created to educate young people of the limited experiences people receive when living in a retirement home. We displayed several students artwork, including a few of our own to give them a change of scenery. Little things like this can really turn someone's day around. We showed the same movie to our school in assembly to encourage other peers to do the same thing.

I decided to do my design on hybrid cars. It is important for us as Tasmanians to use an alternative source of transportation so it decreases the carbon dioxide released into the environment. In my design, I created five hybrid cars that are related to our everyday lives. On my background, I put important facts on hybrid cars that I researched so that people understand about our problems today. In 2020, I want to see a change.

I have a vision of Tasmania in the future being much less reliant on cars for transport. I would love to see Hobart develop a really good public transport system and much better facilities for walkers and cyclists. Living on the Eastern Shore and going to school in North Hobart I have experienced the frustration of an infrequent bus service and lack of bike lanes for safe cycling. I have chosen to focus my painting on an icon of Tasmania, the Tasman Bridge, and depict it as a "no car zone" only for pedestrians, cyclists and the electric passenger trains of the future. I have also included a ferry in my picture for another way of crossing the river. It is a vision that we can work towards to make Hobart a more energy efficient, less polluted and better place to live for all Tasmanians.

Stop, Think… recycle Tasmania.

The aim of this piece of Artwork is to tell people that what we have here in Tasmania is Great and challenge them to make it even better and recycle anything possible. This piece on 3D Artwork was designed to represent the number of cans that Tasmanian people leave behind. In the year 2020 we estimated that the number of cans NOT recycled is going to be at a record high number. The highest mountains or the depths of the sea in Tasmania can’t stop this but we can. On the Tasmanian map we made, the cans for the border were picked up by us from the streets of Devonport. The Map itself was made from shredded newspaper, cardboard found in the schools art storage room and the paper from an old picture. Everything used is or has been recycled. We are sick of people littering so we wanted to make it stop. This is our Stop, think...Recycle Tasmania poster. Hope you like.

My story is called "Georges only Wish" it is based on my Uncle who was born with spina bifida. I have dedicated my book to his memory. My book looks at how monsters (people) with disabilities are teased and bullied. One of the goals and visions for Tasmania by the year 2020 is that everyone in society will feel included. Just like George, people with disabilities need to feel they are part of our community. They want to feel valued and they want friends. We have tried to improve facilities for people with disabilities, but they also have emotional needs. I hope you enjoy reading "George's Only Wish".

Gallery !!!!!

We thought that in twenty years time, everyone could have the opportunity to express themselves and come out with confidence and place their creative artwork into a gallery!

With the red as the building colour we would like it to stand out and catch peoples’ eyes as they go past. The idea is to make it that people from all ages can put their feelings on paper and express themselves.

As people grow old and they have grand children they can have a look at the art work and reflect on what they have done. We would like to also our dream that we could include seating and have live art performances.

I did a calendar because I felt strongly about Tasmania Together and our 12 goals we as a community would like to achieve by 2020.

I thought if I made a calendar explaining to everyone about our goals we would be reminded about them all year. I hoped that every month all Tasmania’s would try to help us reach our goals.

If we all work together I know we can do it!

Our entry, through the form of a book promotes Tasmania Together because it provokes thought about the value of modern day technologies and what implications these inventions have not only on our immediate environment but ultimately our planet!

As a united class group we have used the avenues of scientific inquiry, research, visual art and persuasive writing to produce a book: "Youth Museum for the Future".

Students in the class have looked at the "Oath of a Scientist" and have signed the scientific pledge. In our book students worked in pairs to create display cases to entomb technology of today that they saw as a threat to the future.

Students were asked to think like scientists and to research why certain technologies should become redundant and obsolete. Think bubbles were used to show why certain objects should become a 'relic of the past' and research and scientific examples were used to justify their thoughts.

We believe our entry promotes the concepts behind Tasmania Together as working collaboratively; thinking creatively and using scientific communication can empower people to create a better world for all.

Blackmans Bay Primary 3/4 Haley (Group Entry)

Blackmans Bay School has a commitment to sustainability and students' taking responsibility for their own behaviour.

This philosophy was a basis for students to determine what would also be needed to "take control and alter their future. In discussions students realized there were many pieces that would be needed to bring about change.

We decided to represent our ideas as a puzzle of Tasmania with all our ideas coming together.

Princes Street Primary 3/4 SK (Group Entry)

The students of Grade 3/4 SK formed groups and worked together to find out what we do at Princes Street Primary to:

  • promote democracy
  • provide a quality education
  • encourage creativity
  • be active
  • care about others
  • encourage sustainability

We chose our groups after looking at the vision and goals of Tasmania Together. We found that we are doing so much already and that we can encourage others to do the same and ask them the import question, "Why don't you?"

At Princes Street we have been drawing on the Responsible Citizenship and Democratic values and processes strands of the Tasmanian Society and History curriculum and we have worked at creating a whole school environment where it is "Cool to Care".

The 3/4SK students have had brainstorming sessions, made posters, photo-stories and pivot animations to show how we can take control and alter the future of Tasmania for the better.

Our entry depicts the passing of time. For my students they have discovered the precious nature of water and why it is critical we meet the benchmarks of 2020.

The students understand the need for clean water – what makes it polluted and how it can be cleaned up. For these students to understand they can make a difference to the quality of their adult lives is critical. That they can take control and alter the future.

As part of our "I am a National citizen" unit we have been exploring what it means to be a citizen and a contributor to our community. We live in a unique place and are made up of a diverse range of cultures. As young children we are in a position where we can contribute to society and our global environment. We used this challenge to explore how we envision our future in Tasmania. The analogy of a crystal ball allowed us to imagine a place somewhere in time (2020_ where we would have had an impact on how it looks, feels and sounds. We used our Y-Chart brainstorming to channel our thoughts and expand our understanding of what kind of future we truly wished to see.

Our book "Looking through a crystal Ball" has been designed, created and collated by year 2 students who have developed a passion for working towards creating a better future for all Tasmanians. Their visions for their futures are closely linked to the Tasmania Together goals where all Tasmanians have the opportunity to live a happy, safe and prosperous life.

Plant a seed for the future. Why? Planting a seed will make things grow and will keep the world healthy. My picture shows that people can enjoy flowers, strawberries, pears, apple, trees, grass and a clean sky if we plant seeds.
